proceeded to dock for repairs which were completed by midday on
Friday 18th

Some minutes after the departure from Bürkliplatz,
PS Stadt Rapperswil reduced speed due to the
breakdown of a packing box on the high pressure cylinder - she arrived at Thalwil about 5
minutes late, where her sailing
101 was terminated and she sailed light to Wollishofen for repairs
- expected to last some time Passengers were transferred to the following sailing 103 to Rapperswil/Schmerikon operated by mv Linth PS Stadt Zürich stepped up to cover her sister's afternoon sailings 115-116 to Rapperswil and mv Wädenswil covered the short sailings 135-136 to Männedorf The paddle steamer was observed back in service on Friday 18th July operating to Rapperswil but may have return to service earlier in the week If you have any further information - please e-mail me so the information may be posted for the benefit of other visitors to this website | |||

sailings 2-3-4-5 to Riva It appreas mv Tonale was quickly pressed into service and operated a delayed sailing 2 (by Malcesine she was running approximately 45 minutes late) before returning with sailing 5 on time - in conqequence sailings 3-4 were apparantly cancelled with passengers being conveyed on the other local sailings at the north end of the lake Can YOU confirm or advise otherwise so the information may be posted for the benefit of other visitors to this website | |||

| Following completion of her timetabled
sailings in the Upper Lake PS
Simplon was planned to sail light to Geneva to take up the first of
her autumn charter sailings on Tuesday 4th September It was quite stormy as the ship arrived at Geneva Pâquis for her charter cruise and she missed the pier in the storm and touched the pier fenders violently, two of which broke and she sustained a hole in her hull over the waterline The special cruise was cancelled and PS Simplon subsequently returned to Ouchy on Thursday 6th September for repairs The paddle steamer completed her repairs on Friday 14th September and returned to service for another charter on Saturday 15th September | |||

Whilst returning to Lausanne on Saturday 25th August on sailing
404, the engineer on PS Montreux
noticed a small leak of vapor on the pipe leading from the boiler to the engine
(pistons) - as the vapor is at 340° Celsius and the pipe very close to the
wooden floor of the main deck, this was a potential fire risk and decision was taken to
investigate before continuing operation next morning That was done on Sunday 26th August and her sailings covered by mv Henry-Dunant - the leak was located on a Unfortunately, as the leak was not completly eliminated, further investigation were required which led to the cancellation of the evening sailings 403-404 as the motor vessel had a pre-arranged evening charter sailing - however dinner was served on board the static paddle steamer at Ouchy Tuesday 28th August was used to cool down the boiler and the engine to allow removal of the insulation around the pipe where another minor leak was found and fixed The paddle steamer returned to service on Wednesday 29th August | |||

with a view to increased usage in future years at an estimated cost of 2,000,000 SF A detailed "appeal" prospectus is available direct from the company You can still e-mail them for a copy (see my links page for access to their website) It was reported in the local press in November 2005 that the appeal fund had reached In consequence work took place on the 1909 built PS Stadt Zürich during the Winter of 2003-04 The two Zurich paddle steamers were officially awarded 1 million Swiss Francs by the Canton of Zurich on Monday 23rd June, so the collection campaign for the 2 vessels is complete All together 2.4 million Swiss Francs has now been raised (the original target was 2 million) PS Stadt Zürich spent the winter 2003-04 in the dry dock and was re-launched on 13th April 2004 She PS Stadt Rapperswil completed her 2005 season on Sunday 23rd October and has now been withdrawn from service to receive similar treatment during this winter (2005-06) | ||||||||||||
